Grants
Hamstall Ridware St Michael and All Angels has just been given a grant towards their audio visual installation.
St Michael & All Angels Hamstall Ridware is a Grade 1 listed village church originating from c. 1120 supported by the local congregation but now part of the united benefice of Kings Bromley, The Ridwares and Yoxall. To support full inclusivity and participation by all - regular worshippers and those who may only experience a church service at a funeral or other personal event - it was felt that an audio system with hearing loop serving the church interior should be installed. Having sought the experience of other churches in the benefice and more widely, three audio companies were invited to provide solutions and quotations and the Diocesan audio advisor also carried out an inspection. The PCC were thus able to identify the best means for addressing the needs of worshippers and others using the church. Within the installed speaker system with radio microphone for use by the Rector an induction loop system has been included incorporating an ambience microphone to capture the general sound of singing for those using the loop. The SHCT were able to contribute towards the project costs and this has been greatly appreciated by the Hamstall Ridware PCC who are confident that the installation will help towards securing the long term use of the church for the community while being essential to support regular worshippers and those attending personal religious events.

Shelton St Mark has just received a further grant from us for help towards their very large repair work. The events in the last few years have made the costs increase. St Marks will be open on Heritage Open Day 9th September which is also Ride and Stride day. Do take the opportunity to drop in and see what is happening with the current repair work.
Grants are normally given for repairs to the fabric only. Sorry, the Trust cannot assist with re-orderings, organ repairs or redecoration. But we are open to a good argument if you want to try us!

As well as making grants from our own funds we can make recommendations to the National Churches Trust for further grants.
In the financial year 2022/2023 we gave out a number of grants across the county. These went to:
Wombourne Methodist £500
Our Lady of Lourdes Hednesford £2500
Newborough All Saints £750
Salt St James £1500
Gratwich St Mary the Virgin £2000
Lichfield Cathedral £2000

In addition we started a new scheme which supports 5 rural churches for an initial trail of 3 years. The scheme lays on a contractor who will do a maintenance job twice a year – gutters, drains, slipped tiles and such. He also reports to the PCC if he finds any major issues they might need to tackle.
At present the churches in the scheme are:
Elkstones : Wychnor: Bobbington : Rushton Spencer: Ellenhall
Sadly, there was only one grant given in the 2021/2022 financial year. This was to Darlaston All Saints for £1000. Other grants have been offered but not yet taken up.
