The Churches of our nation are an integral part of how we see ourselves. Like the warp in a tapestry or fabric, these iconic buildings remain broadly stationary throughout time whilst the weft of our societal changes weaves in and out amongst the communities in which we live.
In Staffordshire we are blessed with a rich mix of these places of worship and on this website we invite you to connect with your own history by engaging with the churches around you.
We organise a number of guided church tours, have an annual tea party, and help with maintenance grants via the generous donations of our members.
We are blessed in this diocese with an abundance of historic churches, passed into our stewardship through the generosity and faithfulness of past generations. These churches, though, can be a real burden on the congregations . The Historic Churches Trust provides grants to help in the often costly task of maintaining and safeguarding these buildings. The annual Ride & Stride event is indispensable to its continuing ability to offer this support but it relies on congregations not only to open their church doors to welcome the participants on the day but also to encourage members of the congregation to take an active part. It is an enjoyable and worthwhile day out ..Ride, Stride or even Drive!!! As your bishop I encourage you to help make this day a real success!
